A pilot boarding area is the meeting place to which the pilot comes out (IHO Chart Specifications, M-4). Representatives from state pilot associations (Boston Harbor Pilot Association and Northeast Pilots Association) provided the center coordinate of five pilot boarding areas in the Massachusetts ocean management planning area. The Boston Harbor pilot boarding area was buffered by a nautical mile radius, and the remaining four pilot boarding areas were buffered by a 0.5 nautical mile radius.
