- California shown as an island with a slightly indented northern coastline and place names. Depicts small islands between California and the North American continent. The Baja Peninsula is shown next to the northern half of the island of California. A coastline of Nova Albion is depicted with place names, including Cape Mendocino on the far left. Cape Mendocino is also labeled on the northern coast of California. Relief shown pictorially. Title on two scrolls at top of page, inside the border. Includes two solar charts in upper and lower center between hemispheres, illustrating the Copernican and Ptolemaic theories of the solar system. Vignettes depicting mythical representations of the 4 elements in 4 corners of map. Includes text on verso. Likely from a Dutch bible published by Isaak van der Putte from an engraving by Jacob Savry (Savery). Based on the Visscher-Berchem prototype (1658).
