- This map is from the same plate as that for the Mitchell map, "Texas, Oregon and California" of 1846, with changes and additions. Relief shown by hachures and spot heights.. Latitudinal and longitudinal lines. Prime meridians: Greenwich (top), Washington (bottom). 2 bar scales on map, given in "Statute miles" and "Geographic miles." Decorative border. Shows topography, drainage, political boundaries, and indicates "Unexplored" areas. Features Great Spanish Trail, Oregon Route, Fremont's Route. Includes Native American territories. California gold region depicted as a large area, brightly colored in yellow. "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1845, by H.N. Burroughs, in the Clerk's office of the District Court of the eastern district of Penna." "36" in upper right corner. Appears in Mitchell's A new universal atlas, Philadelphia, 1849.
