Decorative cartouches, bar scales, compass roses, rhumb lines, ships, sea monsters. Maps show topography, vegetation, waterways, shoals, ports, city plans. Descriptive text on some maps (e.g. Map 210). Section numbers appear at beneath text and maps (e.g. D d; D d 2). Map 1 appears as 2 globes: western and eastern hemispheres, with text at bottom: Exiguam vasti qui Terrarum aspicis orbis effigiem pictum opus artificis; Te potius mirare ipsum, simulacra videbis in te orbis duplicis, parvus et orbis eris. Map 2 shows the north pole. Map 200 shows soundings. Map 209 has coat of arms. Maps 72, 90, 99, 209, and 218 have keys. Latin titles on most maps. Italian, Dutch, French, and German on some maps. Gothic script. This copy has book plate inside front cover: Ex Libris Gody Freiherr Ebner Von Eschenbach Haustein. Pencil inscriptions inside front cover: 24; on first page: Janssonius; and on title page: 1651. Portion of title worn away on title page; missing part supplied by cataloger. Marginalia throughout text, and on maps 11, 12, 20, 22, 27, 29, 30, 32, 75, 82 (entire colored area), 108, 121, 122, 125, 132, 133, 138, 143, 146, 147, 150, 153-158, 162-163, 165-167, 170, 174, 179, 180-183. Many maps appear to have marginalia beneath that has been subsequently covered. Numerous pages misprinted: e.g. 183 as 177, and 6-page discrepancy carries forward (v. 1); and 297 as 289, and 8-page discrepancy carries forward (v. 2).
