- Description
- Based on Arnold Colom’s world map from approximately 1655. California depicted with one shallow northern bay to the right of C. Mendocino. To the northwest of the island is a landmass called Nova Albion with many place names including C. Banco, Serra Nevada and again, C. Mendocino. Shirley 395. Eastern hemisphere cartouche repeats the title in Dutch: NIEWE WERELT CAART. Western hemisphere cartouche gives general information about the map in Latin. Hemispheres surrounded by six figures representing, clockwise, fire, day, air, sea, night and earth. per Petrum vander Aa.
