LOR - Bezirksregion or District Regions, Berlin, Germany, 2009
This polygon layer shows the Lebensweltlich orientierte Räume (LOR) at the "Bezirksregion" level (in German), of Berlin as of March 2009. This is similar to a "statistical tract or District Region" in the United States. This is the mid size level administrative boundaries out of the 3 levels of LORs.
The "Lebensweltlich orientierte Räume " (LOR) were agreed in 2006 in cooperation between the planning skilled administrations of the Senate, the districts and the State Statistical Institute Berlin-Brandenburg on the basis of already defined by the Youth Services staff rooms uniform. The LOR have been established as a new basis for spatial planning, forecasting and monitoring demographic and social developments in Berlin on 1.8.2006 by the Senate decision.
The LORs hierarchy includes (largest to smallest):
- 60 "Prognoseraums" or "forecast areas" which are similar to "Neighborhoods" with an average of about 60,000 inhabitants as level for the sub-regional population forecast.
- 138 "Bezirksregionen" or "district regions" with about 25,000 inhabitants
-447 "Planungsraume" or "planning areas" with an average of 7,500 inhabitants as the lowest observation and planning level,
